This past Saturday we went to Island Beach State Park on the Jersey coast in search of several migrating shore birds. Standing on the ridge of a sand dune looking through binoculars at Long-tailed Ducks, flocks of Scoters, and occasional Gannets and Red-throated Loons, quite a distance out to sea, this Black-bellied Plover (a lifer for me) lands on the beach and proceeds to look for food bits in the surf. I knew this might be a great opportunity if he would stick around. Not only did he do so, but was very comfortable with several people nearby and at one point casually walked to within 15 feet or less of me. C&C welcome.

Hi Geoff, congrats on your lifer, and what a fine angled pose you managed too. I like the overall IQ and light in this, and the Plover looks nice and sharp. Good placement in the frame, and I do like the OOF surf BG. Just a personal idea, but I would take a bit off the bottom.
Congratulations on the lifer, and a beautiful image to boot. Nice walking pose, good head turn, good detail in the whites (except for just one little spot on the rear flank that's hot). Love the crashing surf.
I had looked at the rear flank originally thinking it might be a tad hot , but Jim and Bill, you've confirmed it. Here's a repost, and Stu I've taken a bit off the bottom of image.
Congratulations on you first BBP! I like the proud walking pose, and the slope looks fine as it looks naturally that way. The subtle extra details on the RP's flanks are much appreciated. I'm with Stu on a bit less below (and right to retain the ratio), quite subjective I know .
I liked tis shot when I first opened the thread, but the RP is a subtle but definite improvement. Great low POV and head turn - a winner all round for me
