    Hi all ,
another frame for this month theme .
This big old unit came very close to me and my car , i already posted a frame of this guy in the past , it is the one with awkward long horn pointing forward not upward .
He came closer and closer and i was just keeping on shooting without really changing the zoom even if i could .

The result was this , well one of them , so not ideal with all the cut off important parts . but hey ....... who cares i post it .

    Cannon EOS 1D x
    EF 200-400 at 400 mm
    F 6,3 ; HIGH ISO of 8000 and NO NR at all ; 1/ 500 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; FF

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas -- yes , the full horn in the picture would have been an ideal situation but it is not a deal breaker even in this situation . I liked the details , and tones , especially the grass sticking out of the dark blacks of the mouth , an interesting frame here , better content then your previous post of the rhino.

    TFS !

Andreas it all sounds a bit scary to me, think I will stick to Mice. Texture and detail of it's hide looks excellent.

    Hi Andreas

Looks like the horn is through your car-door..
DOF works well, with attention on eye and secondary horn.
    Love the textures and contrast..
How did you achieve the low angle from a car?
    Regards

    Andre.

A few more inches to the left would have nailed it and a good example for this months "if only" theme Andreas, DOF & techs are fine nonetheless.

Hi Andreas - A good image for the theme. I also wonder how you got the low pov from the car with him so close?

The framing here is neither here nor there for me, Andreas, sorry .
Always special to get this close to them!

Thanks so much folks for your kind comments , much appreciated .
Low POV was easy .. as the Rhino was approaching from an elevated area .

    Thanks again, Andreas

Hi Andreas, you can't always predict, but I like this frame filler. Because of the nature with the leg angled you do, well i do, think it needs a slight rotation, but then if this is FF you loose image content so leave as is. Good for ISO8000 shows what can be done and for those who use it at 400 or less they may think on .

Have you tried B/W, the reason I suggest is the contrast in colour between subject & grass, it's a bit bright????

Thanks Steve , no have not thought about going the B/W route , but could be an option
I do not think the grass is too bright , already toned that down a lot .
Rotation very difficult to say ? As i was down in the car and this guy approached on a bank that was angled down to the LHS as viewed !!??? But as you say it is already that tight , no more room for rotation !

Yes for that high iso the outcome is very nice , specially i have not even used Luminance NR at any stage in the process . But this does not work always , sadly . I would like to know why this differs sometimes so much ?

    Thanks again cheers Andreas

Each has it's own characteristics, but IMHO you apply any Luminance then you need to look at other aspects of the sliders like Detail, as each action has an effect and where you MAY need to counter that, anyway...

Steve i use chroma NR on all images , i go normally with the factory preset on that or might go higher .
In DPP there is no detail slider for luminance NR just the slider for the effect taking place , but if exposed well to the right without blowing all three channels the HL detail can be normally recovered , at least when i double process the image .
As this image was well overexposed , there is actually no noise that needed to be addressed , even in the shadows !!!!
When i have to fight noise i rather tend to use Neat Image for NR , is giving good results IMHO . I do it normally as the first step after export to PS .

But in the end what counts is the output , whichever way one goes .

    Cheers Andreas

Whatever works Andreas, LR in Luminance has Detail & Contrast sliders, plus Colour, Detail & Smoothness, I think similar to Neat Image and I think there is a new upgrade too, so I wonder if it's now compatible with LR6 & CCPS2015?

    Good evening gents

I have never done double processing...why is it superior to masking the affected areas?
How do you blend the 2?
