I thought I would add a bit of diversity to the forum with another image of one of the cooperative Big Horn Rams from my Yellowstone winter trip with Dale.

    Hello Rachel!

Impressive Ram and those big horns are so beautifully shaped! He looks way too heavy for the size of his limbs.

I like the way you captured this scene with the inclusion of environment. Well exposed and lovely detail as well as tones, interesting to observe the range of colours on this species - from creamy white to light brown to dark brown.

The composition works for me, nice HA and pose, BTW was the subject moving or he stopped for a moment to have a look at you?
Great techs my friend, as well as PP work - this is one of the loveliest Big Horn Ram images from you. It just works for me so well, I particularly like the rocky mountain in the BG

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Thanks Gabriela. He was moving across the ridge but may have paused at this particular moment given that both back legs are together.

    Hi Rachel

It just is so stunning how evolution works- planes antelope needs speed- long extremities for speed.
These Sheep do not need speed, they need sure-footedness- therefore shorter legs with specialised hooves.
For us in Africa they look odd with their shorter legs, we are used to longer legs for speed..

Good detail in whites and darks, comp works, grass in mouth adds.( though it reminds me of my of some patients presenting with the exact same posture..)

If possible, would like more Mid-tone contrast on the Ram..
    Regards

    Andre.

Hi Rachel , nice specimen of this species .
Lovely details and in HL and SH , does look processed nicely . I do find it not that ideal to have the BG that detailed , but understand there was no choice as the distance was too narrow between subject and BG . Shooting wide open might have helped with this slightly .
Agree with the grass in the mouth adds a bit more interest .
Wonder if a bit more tonal contrast might help the ram to pop a bit more , specially in the uni coloured fur areas .

Very pleasing comp and the Browns and whites in the image are awesome. The placement of Ram is nice and so are the details.

Hi Rachel -- A very good image ! lovely details and your PP work looks very good as always . I liked the settings and more separation from the BG would have been good but not a deal breaker .
I have noticed in few RAM images that they always have that blade of grass or something like that in their mouth , interesting to see such things .
    TFS !

Hi Rachel, you have brought out good detail on the Ram's coat, and love the curled horns. Do they have horizontal pupils? The melting snow looks like soapy foam - either way, as you know, I always enjoy your winter BG's.

Thanks Stu. I'm not sure about the pupils, will have to look it up.

Hi Rachel, a slight move to the right so you were more 'side on' I feel would have helped, also for the white of the rear, as it may have diminished any highlight issues and more tonal values. The grass is a nice touch, looks very chilled. For me, the eye looks very much brighter, it tends to pop more, but I would bring more depth out of the Horn via a curves adjustment, just to create more detail, but personal choice.

I like this Rachel - he stands out well from the rocks and snow and the IQ is great.
