I staked out a dead branch at a neighborhood lake this morning and this female Kingfisher came by for a few seconds. This was not a set up - and not my first attempt at this shot. Would appreciate any comments for improvement. Not good that the sky broke through the BG leaves right at the bird's head. Also, the perch unfortunately was in shade with a bit of backlighting on the BG. Still, I find these very tough birds to photograph so for now I was happy to get this shot even though not ideal. I did some BG cloning in ULC.

The glow behind the head adds to the pic IMO. A well-presented shot. Perhaps a bit of dodging of the eye. Those legs are definitely not made for walking!

Beautiful Bg and a real jaunty looking bird showing off it's crest, all looks excellent to me.

    What a great image.
    2 things I would suggest:
    1. I would do a levels adjustment on this image by going to levels in CS (if you have it) and work the RUC to get rid of the semicircular lines that are created by the cloning.
The levels adjustment will give it a bit more punch.
    BG colors are great.

Hi David, a fun image and I love the 'Mohican' hair do, rather funky.

Firstly I would look to increasing that SS even on a monopod, the images will be better. Secondly the image needs just a bit more 'punch' as the blacks look a little flat so a Curves adjustment will give you more control and IMHO, a better result overall.
