The only other time I had previously photographed an American Wigeon it was a very dishevelled male. When a few of these recently showed up at a local conservation area and hanging out close to shore I was more than happy to fill my portfolio with much better images of the species. These are not rare by any means, but they are usually rather shy and way too far for good photos up here.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/125s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small CW rotation then small crop for comp, a few specks in the water removed, darkened the pupil, toned down the top oh the head and bill.
