This photo was taken with a Canon 300D camera and sigma 170-500mm lens. I cloned out an out-of focus stem on the left side of the photo. I have read Margaret Morse Nice's seminal studies done in the 1930's on song sparrows and her charming book, The Watcher at The Nest, and have a special fondness for these birds. They sure are cute. The lens was set at 500 mm. I don't remember the other settings.
For other camera settings for this photo, you can check the EXIF file.
I like the warm lighting. I'm not sure of the stems on the left...don't seem to be helping the pic. What about a vertical crop of this photo? I think the bird could be sharper, too.
Hi Dave,
Welcome to the BPN family...:) I like your composition your bird has a good head angle. The colors and details in the feathers and the eyes look a little soft or out of focus. I would suggest in cloning out the vertical or diagonal branches from both sides of your frame. I took the liberty of doctoring up your image. I cloned out the branches to give you a cleaner presentation of your subject. I increased the contrast just a hair, gave you a sprinkle of saturation and a tad of sharpening...:D
I like the pose and light and would consider a vertical crop. You could sharpen the head selectively and apply some NR on the BG as it looks a bit noisy. Keep them coming!
I like David's repost and would only try to remove the dark part of the BG in the upper right. The left part of the body is a bit dark, fill flash would have helped with that.
love david's repost!!!! nice job. also like the head angle of the bird!! agree that some FF would have helped even out the shadows. nice post and welcome to BPN!!!!
I love the collaborative learning environment on the Eager to Learn forum. The repost is a big improvement, and it helps illustrate the point that we learn not just from posting our own photos, but also from critiquing and reworking other forum members' photos.
