    Encounters with this species, which we only see during migration locally, are always fun. Quite the cute bird with a striking eye.

    Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop for composition, lightened the far eye. Audio used.

    Hi Daniel,

    I really love this shot. I have not yet seen this bird, love the eyes! The "almost submerged" camera perspective works very well here.

    I really like how the tonality of the foreground is about the same as the head and back plumage. Those water droplets suggest it just came out of the water too.

    Just love how the muted colors of this frame allow the red eyes to pop. Water droplets add as well. Such a great little grebe, well photographed!
