Lots of poppies in bloom around here, so I tried a few shots with my 60mm macro.

    Nikon D70
    60MM/2.8 Macro
    F/3.3
    1/400s
    ISO 200

    Thanks for looking and comments.

i'm no macro guy, but i will tell you what i see!!! the blown highlights on the flower and the bg are distracting! the ones that are on the top of the frame can actually be cropped out so that the space at the top is equal with the bottom. and i think the reds are over saturated giving it a flat look. i like softer, but not sure about flat. cant wait to hear what the others say. maybe they can critique my critique!!!

    Hi Sid,
This image hits me kind of hard. The color clash between the dark green background and the super red flower is too contrasty for my taste. I would desaturate the reds and desaturate the greens and blurr the background more...

    Sid,

Good attempt! Reds, that red are hard! My biggest critique is there doesn't really seem to be a focal point, no critical focus. Hats off to you on keeping some detail in the reds.

Hi Sid What everybody is saying relates to the behavior of the red channel. You can have a good looking histogram and the red channel could be blown.

Can select the the red channel and lower the saturation by a few points, will make the red look real and decrease density. Most digital cameras will reproduce reds with an exaggerated saturation. Best example are cardinals and wing patches of redwing blackbirds !!!!
