This photo was taken at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, with fall foliage reflecting in the water.
My Canon EOS 7D mkII, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens, and 1.4x III teleconverter were handheld. Settings were f/8, 1/1000s, ISO 1250, 560mm. Shot RAW and processed in Lightroom.
Cropped to 75% frame width for composition. There was a significant contrast between the bird and water. Desaturated the water, and raised the shadows on the bird.
Cloned out a 2nd catchlight from the eye, and a few distracting spots in the water. Applied NR to the background.
Critiques very much appreciated - Thanks for having a look :)

I like the reflection, body angle, sharpness, composition and sweet water color. I would consider toning down the highlight at the tip of the beak in the reflection. Very well done Ross!
Very appealing image, and the processing is carried out tastefully. I love the details and colours. Nice reflection. I'd be OK with a touch more room all around especially for the bottom edge. The males now in peek breeding plumage...I think I know where I may head out this weekend time willing!
