This photo was taken at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on a dark overcast day, with fall foliage reflecting in the water. Having just unraveled the Leech from it's bill, this Hudsonian Godwit works hard for it's snack.
My Canon EOS 7D mkII, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens, and 1.4x III teleconverter were handheld. Settings were f/8, 1/1000s, ISO 2000, 450mm. Shot RAW and processed in Lightroom.
Cropped to 80% frame width for composition. Applied NR and slightly warmer white balance to the water (excluding the splashes). Added a catch light to the eye.
Critiques very much appreciated - Thanks for having a look :)

This is really nice! Love the splash and the leech. But the best part is that lovely golden water.
Did you post this at less than the 1200 x 800 pixel size? Image seems smaller than normal.
Well done!

Gail, yes I have been posting 1000px on the long side. I just deleted the original and replaced it with a 1200 x 800 px version. Thank you very much for pointing that out, I fixed my LR export preset :)
Interesting image, and I like the action/behavior you have captured. There's a lot of interest with the splash, the catch and the foot. I am guessing you added the catch light, and it looks pretty darn good. You have quite a pleasing color palette here.
This was a fun bird to photograph, I'm glad you got a good go at it too. He put on a leech eating show for me too. Really nice splashing action in the water, and I like the behaviour of trying to scratch the leech off the bill. Good job with the available light you had, and good on you for cranking up the ISO to get shutter speed. If anything I would try to tone down the brighter streak between the bill and left edge, but all in all quite a pleasing and entertaining frame.
Yes agreed, the trick is noticing that "one seemingly minor" thing to touch up ;)
Seems sometimes I find a lot of extremely minor trivial / insignificant things, then don't see the obvious issues that are right out front (rolling my eyes).
