    Default Touchdown! American Wigeon Hen

It doesn't always happen this way, but I was pleased to catch just the moment of touchdown of feet and tail; and the braking wings didn't obscure the head, for once. I hadn't yet gotten myself down into the lowest possible position on the dike when she landed, but I'm guessing that the background might not have been so nice if I were lower.

    Hi Bill,

That is great that you got that initial touchdown moment. I really like the autumn colors reflected in the water, so this POV works very well for this background.

Composition, exposure, and details all seem great to my eye. Wonderful image Bill!

Very nice Bill! I like how the head just clears the wing, water action, exposure and composition.

Perfect timing indeed, and I think the point-of-view is just right. Perhaps a bit of CW rotation, but not as much as the ripples indicate...

Thank you all for your comments. Daniel and Gail: prior to cropping the image, I rotated so as to vertically align the bird and her reflection. I may have done it a bit hastily, but I think it's pretty close. Take a look at the water drop above the bird's foot, and its reflection below the foot. Pretty close, but perhaps the need for a slight tweak. Thanks for noticing.
