This was taken in January on the Detroit River. The shooting angle isn't ideal but this is as low as I could get. About 60 percent of the original frame. I think my hands were to cold to put the 1.4 TC on. All C&Cs are welcome and appreciated.

    Hi Jim,

This is a wonderfully detailed an colourful shot. I try to avoid white/gray sky reflections in the water usually, but can see how it really makes the bird pop in this shot.

A little more room on the rhs and bottom may be possibilities, if available in the original frame.

Thanks for posting this beauty, Jim!

I agree with Ross. Good stuff though. Can't get near these on our local river. All the fishermen chuck bricks at these all day. They say they want them culled now along with the cormorants! It'll be kingfishers next !!

Well captured Jim. The colours are awesome. I can feel the 'coldness' on the frame.

I don't mind the lack of low angle, I know the feeling of not being able to go down.
Most of the places I visit are like that. Nice image by the way.

Nice details, and I'm liking that single big drop on the back. The turquoise around the subject looks pretty cool. Yes to a lower angle, but I understand that you could not do so at this spot.

Hi Jim, Ive always enjoyed the shape of these guys heads and bill. Overall well exposed, and I like the 'spikey' hairdo. I also like the colour of the water.
