Default Female Snail Kite with Apple Snail

Shot on a glorious February morning out with Mr. Neiger.
This was shot in some pretty low light.

    Canon 1D MK 11 N / Canon 500 f4 / 1/640th @ f5 ISO 400 / handheld from boat / manual exposure

I'm not sure how you could get much better than this David. Excellent wing position, great timing just after lift off from the water and nice lighting as well.

A little more headturn and this would have been perfect IMO. The rest looks killer!!!

Great timing and action, David. I agree that a little more head turn would have been even better..

    Hi David,

What a gorgeous species this is....
Wich we had these over here. I really like the way you have portraied this one and besides the wish for a slight headturn towards you over wich of course you had no control this is excellent!
    Well done!

In this type of shot, I actually prefer to see the bird looking where it is going rather than at the camera, but I'm in the minority :D

I like the way the water is running off the snail.

I might increase the saturation of the bird, especially in the head area a little, but I've never seen one in person, so I don't know what they are supposed to look like. I just like more color.

I see you had fun down there during Florida round 2. Well done as always. The head turn would have put it over the top.
