    Default White on Black...

I always love shots with rich dark backgrounds and well lit subjects....takes a relatively boring seagull and elevates it just that little bit.

Shot with Canon 7D2, Canon 100-400II at 400mm f/5.6 1/2000 ISO 400. Handheld from kayak.

Nice contrast between the background and the gull, and the gull does look handsome. Perhaps a little more breathing room?

The bird was nicely lit except the head. Interesting shot against the dark background, Geoff.

I like the exposure and the play between white bird and black BG. Good low angle too. Details are pleasing. As is I would darken or fully remove the brown stuff in front of the head and bill. Ideally the composition would be looser as the subject is rather tight in the frame. The side light angle gave an interest look to the eye, which I like.

A little bit more room all around would be all this image needs for my taste. IQ looks good.
    Agree with Daniel's critique,
