    Default Flat-out

We had the privilege to spend some time with two young Hyenas on the recent trip to Kruger.
One was more inquisitive and restless. We have a few images of him- see Gabriela's post of the same critter.
Here he was staring at the two big glasses sticking out of the car aimed at him; or maybe the other hundred vehicles...

    Nikon D3S- 500F4
    1/1250 @ F6,3
    ISO 2200
    +0.3EV for ETTR
    Cam-rack with Gimbal

1/1250 for he was moving a moment ago. Did not use bigger F-stop for more DOF- already 2200 ISO.
LR5 then CS6. Various masked curve/level layers with different blending modes @ different opacities- applied only where needed.
Felt it needed MID-TONE boost? in hairs above eyes and between ears- eventually used TK MT3 and TK lights 2 masks in curves, grouped, applied mask- applied only to the affected area.
Reduced blues in nose and eyes, D&B layer. Lum layer(my action LIGHTENS) on eyes.
Some gardening done on on far LHS to remove some distracting grasses.
    Selectively Sharpen for web.
    There you have it-WDYT?
    Crits & comments welcomed.
    Regards

    Andre.

Love those eyes. I think the image is well processed and does not need a mid tone boost. I'd suggest go for a pano crop and take away some of the top and bring more focus on that face. DOF looks good to me. Loi

Hi Andre -- Loi's suggestion sounds good regrading the crop . Image looks good on IQ and is nicely processed as well . I liked this pose and inquisitive look on the hyena .
what abt 100 vehicles ? was that a metaphor or actual count ?

Hi Andre - Great eye contact and low pov. The fly adds to the image. Colors and tones look good. Dof not an issue for me. Is that another hyena behind or is his body splayed in different directions? Loi's suggested crop is a good one. It works well with a screen scroll.

    Rachel

Thank you all for comments and suggestions.

Cropped as per suggestions, felt the image needed more "oompf"- the RP.
Rachel, that was the sibling behind- painted with soft light at BG colours over her to lessen her presence..

    Andre.

Hi Buthi i must say from my POV this is your best processed frame so far , just from the pure techs POV .
Lovely subtle tonality , stunning detail and the coors do look very good to me .......
I also like the low shooting angle and the look the Hyena gave you , your RP has more impact for me .

To sum this up for me .... very , very nicely done brother .

    Cheers and TFS Andreas

Hi Andre, the POV is looking good, but why are you hesitant about the ISO, it's a Nikon, 2200 is scratching the surface.

PP looks good too, but I think the little extra 'oomph' is somewhere between the two for me, just personal taste, but agree with Andreas re PP & frame.
