    Default Big Horn Ram

I thought I would post a theme image and perhaps a bit more artsy than usual. I wanted to really highlight the detail on the ram, particularly the horn. As a result, I also wanted to have almost no detail in the bg or distracting elements in the bg so because this was more of an artsy image I cloned out a couple of stray grass stems below the ram.

Wonderful frame Rachel, love the HA of the subject and that bit of detail in the snow - adds so much depth to this image. And I am fascinated with those tattered horns:)

Your artsy PP work brought about lots of detail, especially in the eye, muzzle (love those teeth exposed) and of course, fur.

On opening the thumbnail, the first thing I looked at was composition and realised a lot of thinking has gone into this: I absolutely love how the subject enters the frame, and also the way in which it fills the frame.

Wonderful image my friend, love the "clean" feel here, well exposed, sharpness spot-on, techs 100%.

Hope you have a wonderful evening, we just returned from the local Game Reserve and chilling about, not many images but it was good to see a couple of the big 5 and just be in the wild again:)

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Rachel -- Have you posted this one previously , in B/W i think ?
This looks a beautiful image , lovely details and sharpness. You tend to get those colors right , looks perfect to me in terms of colors and tones . But the added feature of this image is the grass in its mouth . Very nicely done.
    TFS !

Thanks Gabriela and Haseeb. Haseeb, you have a good memory. I posted another frame from this sighting converted to B&W during the B&W theme. I promised to post the color version at some point so here is one that is similar.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, pretty good thinking on the white BG. It does bring out a lot of details on the impressive horns. I tried a tighter crop to emphasize the horns. WDYT?

Thanks Loi, that definitely works as a good alternative.

    Hi Rachel

Love the detail on the ram and it is amplified by the BG with almost no distinguishing features. Interested how you achieved this, did you do reverse S-curve?
Comp works, love the eye contact with "down" look. Where you lower than him?
The snow on the horns and the grass in mouth adds to his attitude.
Prefer the wider crop in the OP.
    Well done!
    Regards

    Andre.

Excellent texture and detail Rachel. Love the look and eye contact here. That 100-400 II copy of yours looks great ! TFS.

Thanks Andre and Sanjeev. Andre - the only adjustments I did to the bg was to bring the highlights up a little. Normally we make adjustments to bring out detail, here I didn't want any.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, excellent detail throughout the Ram, and love the eye contact too. The blade of grass he's chewing on takes this up a few notches, and Ive always liked your BG's from this trip to Yellowstone.

Thanks Stu. Andre - I just realized I didn't answer one of your questions. Sorry about that. Yes, I was below him. He was on the rock face of a hill just off the road and I was on the road below.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel what great portrait of this nice specimen !!!!
Absolutely well processed and presented . Love the detail and the color/ tone combo . I do not understand why you call this an artsy image , but well it is yours and if you feel like .... OK .
Loi´s crop could be a good alternative .

Nicely done Rachel !! TFS Andreas
