    Default Paws

An image for this month's theme and I am sure Steve will get a chuckle. Both Steve's wife, Alison, and I saw this image and asked the Ranger to stop as we were pulling away. Steve thought we were crazy. I just liked the way the paws were hanging down from the tree. I processed this a while ago but never posted it but think it fits this month's theme well. I should have also said that this was the Marula female who was pregnant at the time and seemed to be getting used to her condition so instead of sitting with her paws on both sides of the branch she sat in the Y of the branch.

An interesting perspective for sure, Rachel. Though it doesn't grab me much at first glance, it did cause me to look a few times.
I need to look at these animal body part abstracts more myself.
The bright sky is a bit of a distraction here (and I know it often is with leopard-in-tree situations). Not sure there's more you can do about it though.
Did you get any closer close-ups of the dangling feet?

Hi Rachel -- I agree with Morkel regarding the Bright sky as distraction but I do enjoy different perspectives , But this frame is not grabbing me in terms of content though details and PP looks very good . TFS !

Hi Rachel sadly i have to agree with Morkel and Haseeb regarding this image , but nevertheless we should always try different stuff .
For me it is not the sky that is distracting in this case , it is the darker tree round bump between the dangling feet that is too dominant and grabbing my attention .
I can see no real possible solution for making this look better from my POV , as even if you make the bump look like the rest of the tree from the tonal perspective , you will still have the bump staying there .

    Haaaa! Too sweet!

Love this! Not because you are my friend, Rachel but because I find those tired dangling feet - otherwise perfectly aligned - quite delightful, and I can imagine the heavily pregnant owner of those beautiful limbs resting lazily up there in the fork of tree... so this moves me, I agree the bump and the sky could have been different but I know why you took this, I would have done the same and thought "let me see if this works" and it does work for me because it tells me something. I won't be surprised if I saw this on the cover of Getaway magazine, it has a lazy holiday feel to it and it does not "give away" everything, one must use a bit of imagination to complete the frame :)

So here's my take on it, I'll raise you a similar one soon, let me find it...

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Steve thought we were crazy.
Hi Rachel, not sure I thought you were crazy, I just didn't see that there was a shot there I agree with Morkel, the sky is a little distracting and the large 'knot' of wood (?) I find too dominating. The rear legs haven't the separation required and to add more interest I think, having the contrast of the 'pads' visible would I feel have strengthened the concept.

This goes against the grain I know and I am not sure how much more you have all round, but rotating the whole image and bringing back in some more BKG colour if require may offer another option and create the more quirky POV, just a thought?????

'I'll raise and see both you & Gabriela with a 'hi five' shortly' .

Love this too, like the comp, and somehow I find it terribly funny, Steve. I am smiling from ear to ear now. What a cute pair of legs, the sexiest I have ever seen hanging out of a tree so far, LOL

Hi Rachel, I find this very cleverly seen, captured and composed. Good DOF on both sets of legs, and you have brought out the detail nicely.

Coming from avian, Im fine with the visible sky.

Thanks everyone. I knew this certainly wasn't a wall hanger when I posted it but hope to get people thinking about experimenting in the field. Steve - I like what you have done. Btw I think that the fact that there is no separation between the back paws is what makes this a bit more unusual. She was certainly awkward with the movement. Isn't she the one that fell from the tree when trying to get down?

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Your vision in "seeing" the shot is to ba applauded Rachel and would have joined you in trying to compose this image, just not quite working for me either, not an easy shot to pull off flawlessly.

Hi Rachel. I like the idea and the execution of the shot, though it may not be working well enough for me as well, but I am glad you posted it and will certainly set me thinking in the field to try and get the unusual frame. Thanks for sharing this with us.
