Hi folks ....... very easy ,a Gemsbok looking at YOU !Nothing special i just like the overall simplicity and the Kalahari colors and tones . When the sun is harsh i guess ox know how difficult it is to get detail in this very contrasty animal .
So here i go :
Canon EOS 1Dx
EF 200-400 IS L at 350 mm
HH
F 7,1 ; Iso 320; 1/1250 sec
Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC 2015 ; cropped for comp slightly , little gardening of 2 stones
Thanks fro looking and commenting to my previous image
Hi Andreas - This works very well because of the simplicity. You handled the harsh light well. Maybe just a little more below but personal preference and not a deal breaker by any means.
Hi Andreas. Nice looking, healthy Gemsbok in some tough light. But you did well. Nice simple comp with great HA. I like the colours, the clean BG and minimal shadow :-)
BTW how did you like the 200-400 L? Compared to the 500mm?
Hi Andreas -- This is a very good image , the Gemsbok looks sharp and with good details , you have handled the light very nicely and also processed the image quite well . Enjoyed viewing this image . TFS !
My first thought when opening the thumbnail was "the colours are really spot-on". Sharpness is in good measure, well composed, very well exposed, and I love those funnel-ears and the stone-still Gemsie looking right at you.
Curious whether you applied some "treatment" of sorts to the BG and FG - both appear smoother than I would expect, and if this was taken during the heat of the day you would have some "waves" in the BG. Don't get me wrong Boetie, this works for me as is, I just think the FG should be a tad more "coarse" than the BG, WDYT?
I miss the Kalahari so badly now Enjoyed viewing, thank you so much for this.
Thanks so much folks for your kind comments as always greatly appreciated !!
Sanjeev - the 200 - 400 is a stunning lens on its own and (for me) well worth every of the lots of dollars i spent on it , just for the quality , the lightning fast AF when paired with the 1Dx ( slower for sure with the 1D MK IV ) and the endless zooming options with fixed F 4 or F 5,6 when the built in converter is engaged .
It is very much hand holdable and gives stunning IQ for a zoom lens and can easily stand the 500 MK I , it will not win over the 500 MK II on all counts . From my POV the 500 is even better for handholding , feels more balanced in my hands but offers lower flexibilty . But it is another big glass to carry around and to manage in a jam packed car .
So handing two big glasses sounds good in first place but ....... in reality sometimes it can be annoying . If have to make decision and can only take one glass with me for whatever reason ....... it would be the 200-400with no exception , just for being a great combo for all sorts of stuff .
OooooH OooooH Gabriela what are you seeing ????? Do you think i did funny things in this image , oh no no no , or maybe yes will tell you next year my magic getting rid of heat haze ... LOL !
To be honest no magic at all , basically as stated i removed two stones , the rest of the BG / FG is as shot beside two masked adjustment layers ( curve and gamma ) for slightly darkening the FG/BG . The contrast and tone adjustments are just made to the subject . What i did after resizing and web sharpening i removed the sharpening from the FG by just using the paint brush and painted the sharpening away by 60 % .
Hope this helps my little sister , i do not use tricks all the time
And no, I did not mean "funny things" or "tricks", just "clever things", thought the haze was not there at all (which is great), and the earth beneath the hooves of the Gemsie (meaning FG) is very smooth, super smooth in fact, thought perhaps you did some NR of sorts.
As good a side profile as you can get, especially with that clean BG and surrounding - makes me miss the KTP for sure (just booked a return trip with the family very early in January).
Harsh light well handled. It seems a bit too luminous in the midtones, almost giving it a sheen/glow. I might try and tone that down somewhat, Andreas?
