Default Two little monster under surveillance

    Hi all ,
after a long time i went back to my latest KTP images and stumbled over these Cape foxes which photographed close to Mata Mata campsite , not easy to get these little critters as they move fast and rarely stop .
Also at the time of my visit they have not been used really to human presence , by almost every disturbance by cars or talking people they moved back into the den or ran around like crazy .
Anyway it was a pleasure to watch them .

    Canon EOS 1D MK IV
    EF 500 IS L
    HH with bean bag support

    F 7,1 ; Iso 800 ; 1 / 1000 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PS CC ; cropped for comp to 70% of FF from 3 sides

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment to my latest thread .

    Cheers Andreas

Aww they are so adorable Andreas! I like the light, the comp and the glint in the eye of the little one. And oh those ears are BIG!

Hi Andreas -- lovely light and nicely framed . like those cute little pups their are very adorable , also the BKG is nice and clean . The IQ is good but not that good as for your rest of the images, i guess the big crop could be a reason , but very nicely processed . TFS !

    Morning Andreas:)

What a pleasure to see this Fox family again!

Indeed very cute, light is pure gold, so are the little fuzzballs and Mom too, and oh she is so wise and protective, a no-nonsense kind of parent! She never played with the pups, too busy checking the surroundings and the sky for predators - hyena, lion, jackal, birds of prey, snakes, trouble could have come from just about anywhere...

Well framed and composed and so nicely exposed... those little ones ran around a lot, often from sun to shade, never sat still for long. I gather this is FF, or almost FF, Andreas? It all works for me 100%, the only critique I have is, it seems to me the little cub on the RHS of the image might be a tad softer than Mom and his sibling - kindly check Boetie.

Wonderful image, a lovely memory of the time we spent together in the KTP, thank you Andreas

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas - Nice look at the fox family in warm light. Definite cute factor here and the vertical comp works. If it were mine I would tame the highlights, particularly on mom, a bit more. It's unfortunate that the kit on the left has the grass stalk intersecting the nose.

    Rachel

Hi Andreas, the golden light looks quite strong, but it's the loss of detail & clarity in the overall comp that surprises me, not your usual standard!!!!

I would try a 10x8 loosing say half an inch off the foot, removing the grass stem that runs vertical behind the cubs nose and then using the full width crop from the foot up, losing more above, seems a little excessive with a heading or title there .

    Hallo Andreas!

I could help to smile when I saw this (part of) the family again! Run those little ones can, and they did!
Funny, in almost all my images from this shoot Mom had eyes half closed staring into the morning sun, but the pups had those big staring eyes always wide open- unless another
sibling running ahead kicked sand in their faces..
That light can be bright early morning and late afternoon, would tame a bit the HL(red channel?)

    Agree with Steve on comp.

    Cheers Buthi!!
    Regards

    Andre.

Hi folks thanks so much for your fruitful comments , actually i thought the HL are ok , still think they are good with enough detail considering what i had in my mind when shooting the little monsters, always borderline those HL under the strong sun from my POV .

But here you go ....... multiplied the RED CHANNEL twice with the blue channel but used a TK mask for the real restriction to the brightest HL ............ lesson learned folks ?

Steve welcome back , hope you had a great time in P and S . Do not think i miss clarity and the IQ is ok considering the crop , specially after even more cropping with this RP .

Anyhow here is the "repaired " frame , thanks again for sharing all your thoughts , much appreciated .

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, yes good time was had thank you .

In the RP there is more tonal range within the subjects now which has added to greater definition however the sharpness isn't there to me, or these eyes have gone soft over the last few weeks, but this maybe down to how much of a crop???? I just spend the last two days producing 48 high res images and you can easily forget how much change there is from a high to low res file. Being pick though, I still may crop another 8mm off the foot so the FG is more uniform and then blown in more of the darker colour at the top, again for a darker continuity edge, but then we are getting into micro comments which you sometimes want.

PS I still think that blade of grass has to go!

Steve micro comments are always great .
I have to disagree regarding sharpness , considering this is now a 50 % crop and the FP point was on the pup looking to the left . At least i can see on this low res file fine fur hair on the right pup , maybe my eyes are not ok .
In the original the BG is darker but i avoided the darkness as i did not like it , but you are right with the grass blade .

I am just really wondering that you want me to pixel bash even more .

Anyhow thanks for sharing your thoughts , Maestro

Lovely light on some cute critters Andreas. Liking your repost.
I am just contemplating a return to KTP sometime in January, planning with the missus to take the kids again.
