This Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel reminded me of a favorite Dickens quote; hence the title. Photographed at Crater Lake National Park in my home state, Oregon, USA. Thanks as always for viewing and commenting, much appreciated.

Hi Katie your little Oliver does look quite cute and inquisite character in your frame .
Great background and the placement on the rock isolates him nicely for a clean shot , the pose adds to the overall look and feel .
You have nice detail and overall lovely colors , just think a bit thin in the color/ tonal depth , but this could be just me . There is a bit too much of space on the foot of the frame , but understand that you do not want to loose more pixels by cropping in further .

Nevertheless i gave it a try and also tweaked the tones a fair amount . WDYT ? Basically i multiplied the green channel into the red ( masked with the red channel ) to get more depth into the red channel as the red one is almost always the weakest in terms of tones in the lighter areas of the image .

    TFS Andreas

Hi Katie, he sure is a cute lil character and the pose and sweet BG all make this work well. I like Andreas's RP as it ads a bit more POP to the image. Nicely done and TFS.

Hi Katie -- What a beautiful pose , i loved this frame , nice details and a beautiful clean BG. Also the image looks nice and sharp but the pose makes this image for me . I also liked Andreas RP which is giving more POP to the image as Sanjeev mentioned. TFS !

    Hello Katie,

Super composition and you got some lovely colours to play with in this frame. The pose is wonderful and suggestive of a "connection" between subject and photographer, which makes it a very attractive image IMO.

Love the name you've given this little one, and I appreciate the explanation behind the title. Andreas has added his magic touch here, my German Brother loves channels, digs them big time, and ever so often to great effect:)

Enjoyed viewing, very much, thank you Katie!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Katie - It held up well to the large crop. I like the inquisitive pose. Andreas' rp has taken it up a notch. I think I would prefer a comp with a bit more room to the left than to the right though.

    TFS,
    Rachel

You can call me Mr Channel , then we have Mr Detail and Mr Channel here in this forum , and for me the channels are the most important stuff as all images are made from three channels oh sorry 4 if you count the RGB composite . To drive you totally nuts Gabriela sometimes i use 10 channels . Not all at once .....
To make that clear : 3 for LAB , 3 for RGB and 4 for CMYK color space and all are usable in one image you just need to know how but one can get lost from time to time including myself . " Always look on the bright side of life ..... "

Cheers my one layer editing sweet sister
