thatīs what i thought while walking through our local supermarket for food shopping .What i found was already Christmas stuff in the shelves a bit too early for my taste .
Anyhow went through files from Svalbard couple of years ago .... and i come up with Rudolph , the Reindeer
WDYT ?
Canon EOS 1D MK II
EF 100-400 at 400 mm
HH
F 8 ; Iso 200 ; 1/250 sec , well those settings in the past are driving me nuts .
Processed with Iridient Developer and PS CC ; cropped for comp from top and bottom .
Hope you like it and thanks for watching and commenting to previous posting
Hi ANdreas -- The image is simply fabulous ! loved the details and sharpness , beautiful white fur and comp works perfectly well . Excellent IQ inspite of the old techs !! TFS !
Hi Andreas - Where's the red nose? The tight comp works well. His antlers are much smaller than most of the ones I saw in Svalbard. Looks like a masking issue around the right antler as we look at it with brighter whites right at the edge and tip of it.
Thanks so much folks for your kind comments , much appreciated .
Rachel - oops sorry i forgot the red nose , removed it because i thought you will point out the color issue and was afraid of your comment regarding the color .
I do not see what you see regarding masking issue ??!!
Maybe you can RP with an arrow assigned for my understanding .
What a cutie of a Reindeer and I love those velvety antlers:)
Whew, nice IQ, lovely colours, sharp, all works for me! Including framing.
You know me, I do not shoot anything below 1/500s. With my 500, that is:). I would have pushed for 1/400s here, to be safe. But you did extremely well, Boetie. The eye is superb. Did your older gear produce some noise at higher ISO? I haven't noticed when opening the thumbnail, but looked carefully and I think Rachel referred to that brighter fur around the subject's L antler. Especially at the top. Me thinking the whites were almost blown but not beyond recovery, still a bit hot but hardly noticeable.
I am afraid I might actually have some frames taken at low SS, this time around in Kruger. That, after pushing the ISO beyond reasonable limits. Or by accident:) The light was often bad, quite a few overcast days and some rain too. I just played around and took higher risks than usual, which is something I cannot afford when shooting my beloved predators...I am too scared too look at my folders right now, tonight I must start choosing what stays and what goes to the bin. Love to see some older images of yours, this is as good as the recent ones and I enjoyed viewing, thank you so much Andreas
Yep, that's what I thought, whites not blown and recoverable, LOL. Good on you!!!
Still looking through my folders to find something worthwhile processing, the "thousand blokes" made it difficult for us to spend some time with our subjects. For now I'll be lurking through the Forums enjoying the work of other photographers...Not sure I have something to surprise you with. Very busy at work and not finding the time to do any PP work, I find browsing through BPN quite relaxing, therapeutic, and so, so enjoyable.
Warmest regards and wishes of a wonderful week-end,
