    Default Thrush ID Request

Two different looking birds landed in my yard by Lake Ontario early this afternoon on a cold front. The first two photos might be the same individual. The second in photo # 3 showed 35 minutes later. I have trouble sorting them out in fall. Any help would be most appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jonathan

I think we can safely rule out Veery and Hermit, and this is definitely not a Wood Thrush. The most likely then would be Swainson's or Grey-cheeked. I am not that confident on applying a sure answer here though. These thrushes are tough to positively ID through visuals only.

Thank you, Daniel. I wouldn't be able to ID these thrushes by sound. I can go with the visual as being Swainson's based on this visual ID from an identified Grey-cheeked that was in my yard 27 October 2014. Does this visual help?

Original post looks likes Swainson's. Big buffy eyering, buffy wash in the throat area, and dark tail.

That last one looks like a HermitThrush, with a clean white eyering and a lot of rufous in the wings and tail.

Thanks, Paul. You are correct. That photo was one recovered and misplaced when returned to the wrong folder.
