Elephants everywhere at the watering hole near our camp. Some were too close for the only camera/lens I had with me that morning so I focused on the mud, texture, eye and detail which I think shows better in monotone. Thanks for commenting on previous images and as always, I am eager to have your feedback.

Hello Katie -- That is a very artistic perspective . i liked the way you have captured the image with the close eye lid and muddy texture . The comp works for me but i feel it lacks some punch in midtones . TFS !

Hi Katie - I like these types of images and this works with the rule of thirds placement of the eye. Try a levels adjustment bringing the right hand slider in until just before the highlights clip at about 245. I then burned the shadows below and to the right a bit. I thought this gives it a bit more tonal depth and key lighting effect on the eyelashes. Of course, all of this is personal preference and may not be what you were going for with your image. So many possibilities with an image like this.

    TFS,
    Rachel

P.S. The change is subtle but more apparent when viewed in PS.

Thank you, Rachel. I like it, subtle yes, but exactly what I was going for.

Superb texture and detail Katie! I really like it and the RP by Rachel has made it even better!

Hi Katie , you did well with the textures , but sadly somehow this frame does not grab me .I just find the placement of the closed eye a bit unfortunate in the LLC , even if it is placed in the rule of thirds .
The conversion does look ok to me , but i am not that fuzzed about the toning .
Hope you do not mind my honest comment .

On the contrary, Andreas; while its nice to know your work speaks to others as it does to you what I'm most wanting here is perspective, inspiration and helpful commentary. So I thank you for taking the time and thoughtfulness to give me honest feedback. Actually, I was somewhat troubled with that eye but I didn't leave myself any room on the bottom. I just looked at it again and wonder if taking some off the top would improve it, WDYT?

I have looked carefully at your image and thought about the comments. I think since the eye is closed and looking down, it would be nice to have the eye in the upper right corner looking down to the lower left corner. That would give the viewer's eyes someplace to go. Right now, the viewer focuses on the eye and stays in the lower third of the image, which makes this feel tight. Even though there is texture in the remainder of the image, there is nothing in those areas that draw attention. I do like this creative approach and the monotone processing.

Hello what said Nancy is right.
I think this creative situation could be better with the eye open
I am returned now from Hwange and as informed Katied there are hundred and hundred of elephants...but is very difficult take shoots out of the order.
I think could be fine b/n
