Heard of a rare bird (for the west) at the largest high meadow in California, Sierra Valley and was lucky to find it....Solitary Sandpiper. They do not feed on fish but it caught the fish, walked around with it for awhile and the fish finally escaped. I was happy with this image because of the rare bird, however could not get to eye level for a photo. The minute I tried to sneek closer for a different angle it moved to a farther pond. But at least I have learned from this group what to strive for, tho sometimes unobtainable. I also had no room on the left of file and don;t know how to add canvas yet. Tho I am thrilled to capture this rare bird look forward to critique.

I like the pose and the fish is a bonus! I would probably rotate this a little, but without additional BG that will prove difficult. Possibly a bit higher f/stop would have helped with a little more DOF and you still could have a fairly high SS.
Your higher vantage point gave you a nicely colored BG that works well with the bird. Nice to find a rare specimen!
Some more canvas on the left would be good -- check out my tutorial in Educational Resources -- its very simple, and a content-aware fill will probably work well, if you have PS.
