    Default Puku tug of war.(graphic)

I witnessed this early evening hunt from start to finish, by 4 females and 4 cubs from the Nsefu pride, on this occasion the cubs stayed put and let the gilrls do there stuff, it was all over in seconds and this puku was quickly dispensed with.

Two of the cubs in particular didn't hold back and were right in the thick of it jostling for their piece of the prize, and a good sign in their early development.

Making use of -2.3 Exp comp & ISO3200 and the subtle use of our vehicle's spotlight, no harsh flash was required, a technique I've used ever since the D3 first hit the market.

South Luangwa NP- Zambia, end of dry season.

D4s 500 f/4VR 1/125s f/5.6 -2.3EV ISO3200. Vehicle spot light, F/F, bean bag from front pax seat, curves, levels, TK masking,, PS CC '15 & ACR.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers
    Marc

Hi Marc, image is a bit too gory for me, but this is lif and death in the jungle. Shooting in such low light is always so tricky and you showed here how it can be done that looks like natural light, so thank you for the tip. I see a bit of pink in the image. I would expect the blood and meat more red, so nt sure if that is the effect of the spot light. Loi

That's normal for nature. Light well handled, the middle one with the eyes in focus brings it together IMO. The pink colour looks like blood stains,

Hi Marc - This works very well with the lighting and I particularly like that we can see the eyes of the three on the left. For me, the cub in the middle raised on his hind legs digging in with front paws and mouth really makes the image. I agree that there is a magenta cast to the blood and would drop the magentas if it was mine. I expect the blood to have more of a deep, dark red look, at least it has at the kills or feeding frenzies that I have seen.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Your correct Ben, there is actually very little blood red colour here, it's the pink flesh and blood soaked muzzles and represents exactly what I saw.

The pink/magenta flesh via the spotlight represents true colour for me IMO.

Hi Marc i can almost here the sounds that come with such action , a well captured gory frame , i do not mind at all .BTW would have liked to sit next to you .
The three lions on RHS does the work for me , the LHS is less interesting due to a mix of bodies with no clear view , but thats how it is in nature .

As colors are subjective i leave it up to you with the reds/magentas , i also think they are a tiny bit too strong , i guess this is all coming from the spotlight . But i like this over the typical yellowish spotlight images that we see mostly .
