This is a baby red-breasted merganser shot handheld from kneeling position in available light on the Yukon River beside Whitehorse. Canon 7D2, Canon 200-400 f/4 IS EXT + 1.4 TCIII at 560mm without internal extender engaged. f/5.6, 1/1600, ISO 400.
Sweet shot, like how it is pushing the water with the chest. Also like the water drops on the head. Some of the whites seem to be blown; maybe I'd try to get more details out of those parts. TFS.
Very cute, as baby bird images should be. Great detail, nice frontal approach with just the right head turn. Blues look a bit intense, but that Yukon air is so clean that maybe that is the actual reflected sky color.
This is lovely Geoff. Love the blues.
Great POV, tack sharp and great light and HA.
Only minor issue are the whites on the neck but not really a deal breaker form me.
The bow wave in front of the little one adds a lot to the image.
I would run a bit more NR on the BG.
Well done!
Gail
How cute!! The sunlight is splashing just perfectly on the face, and yes the bow wake is super cool (probably literally too eh!). I too find the whites a bit too bright as posted but not by much.
