Hi all never posted a such negative image of my beloved Grey Seals ....... even i have seen some of them with cuts and wounds all over the body , not knowing where they came from. I have also seen some of them with somehow healed strangling signs around the neck ........
But i have never seen this before in real life ......
Made me feel sad , all sort of left overs from human presence in the ocean like fishing net , ropes, plastic bags or something else ......
Not much more to say from my side , and i do not know if i have the right to criticize anyone , as me and all other humans are part of this what is around the neck of the seal , even if i am not directly involved from my POV .

Just an image to think about !!! Even if only a short time , just think !!!

    Hello Andreas and dear Boetie,

We all know where the ropes came from and I am sad to the core to see this.

A very powerful image and I am sure there are organisations out there who could use this frame to raise awareness.

Beautifully framed and presented, albeit sad as it can get and the pose from the subject tells it all. Heartbreaking reality and I cannot help but feel bitterness towards human greed and negligence. There is a strong message here and a reminder of the impact we have on wildlife, insignificant and limited as we seem to be.

Wonderfully processed as usual and techs are 100% as far as I am concerned, lovely tones and textures... apart from the rope that just does not belong there...I wish I could remove it.

Warmest regards to you, thank you for sharing this with us tonight, really appreciate it,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas, if you had the seal looking direct to camera the image would have a greater impact and really carry the message home far stronger.

Just illustrates how we discard stuff so easily and without thinking of the consequences! We often would do a clear up on each landing in Svalbard, people would never think what is washed up onto the shore and rope like this, or nylon fishing nets with their colour buoys are so common. Something so simple like this, can inflict so much pain & suffering to such an innocent animal.

Hi Andreas - A sad and moving image. It must have been hard to witness in person and know that you could not approach and remove the rope and other lines. A poignant reminder that our carelessness has consequences. It's not about the techs and pp with an image like this, but both are spot on.

    TFS,
    Rachel

HI Andreas -- that is a very sad sight ! images like these helps to create awareness , might take time but it is surely a very effective way . As far as the image is concerned an eye contact would have been very powerful but as presented it surely carries a message for all . TFS ! another reminder for me to behave responsibly . Thank u .

Hi folks thanks so much for all your thoughts and feelings about situations one comes across , when visiting places you want to watch / enjoy wildlife and / or nature .

Steve - even if the Grey Seals of Helgoland seems to be my friends , they do not listen to me when i say stop donīt move , i had to take what i can get as this guy was moving and looking from left to right and back .But agree a head on eye contact would have been better in terms of intensity of the scene .

    Cheers Andreas

    A sad image indeed Andreas.
Makes me think of those plastic islands in the ocean that are larger than some American states!
An image telling the tragic story of man's neglect of the environment which keeps him alive.
