    Default Snow Petrel....

    Attached Images Attached Images

This was shot while cruising up the Dryglaski Fjord to the glacier on the last day of our visit to S. Georgia before crossing over to the Antarctic peninsula...everyone else was shooting wide angle scenics...not me!! I was glad to have the 200-400 out when the snow petrel started cruising just beside the bow. Light was super bright mid-afternoon so the wing shadow is my only nit on this one.

This was shot handheld from the bow of the Polar Pioneer: Canon 1DX, Canon 200-400 f/4 IS EXT at 560mm f/5.6 1/2500 ISO 500

    What a wonderful shot.
Perfect incoming flight position with the wings up.
Love the vibrant blues and cool whites.
Shadow doesn't bother me at all.
exposure is perfect and so tack sharp.
    Well done,
    Gail

Hi Geoff, excellent whites, well exposed, sharp, and you have captured a great flying pose with the extended wings. The Petrel really pops against the rich blue waters.

I would love to have this type of image in my files, but unfortunately, I dont have sea legs at all - so this aint gonna happen anytime soon - or ever.

Love the flight shot and the blue BG.
I would have preferred even lighting on the bird....

What an angelically beautiful bird!! The far wing looks super. The face too. I see your point about the shadow but it is not too bad. I do find the blues too saturated for my tastes though.

    Perfect whites for me.
Shadow is a bummer, but better a great image with a shadow than NO image without it.
What a gorgeous blue on the ocean too.
    Well done and TFS.

So close to perfection. Great details throughout and perfect eye contact. I might desaturate as mentioned. Well done
