Found this fledgling Great Horned Owl on Sunday thanks to a helpful hint from a friend. The owl wasn't having anything to do with me and just wanted to sleep...I guess that is what they do in the daytime. I gave it a couple hoots and it at least tried to open one of its eyes.
Shot handheld but supported on wire fence in available light...Canon 7D2, Canon 600 f/4 IS II + 1.4TCIII, f/8, 1/500, ISO 800. Some cropping and a bit of selective brightening of the open eye to bring out the yellow colour that was otherwise very dull in the RAW file.
Excellent image Geoff! I like the perch, pose, sweet BG color, details and half open eye. Composition wise I would add a little below for the virtual tail and take a little off our left.
Sweet scene with a beautiful perch and awesome background. I'm really liking that single cone too! Good call working the eye. The owl is perhaps tucked in too close to the right edge IMO, but all else looks good to me.
Perhaps with both eyes doing the same thing (open or closed) would have really topped it.
I can see what Daniel means about the owlet being close to the right side.
Well done, and TFS!
