I'm not sure if this image would fit the theme.
    Gave it a try, anyway.
    Thanks for looking.

Awesome details, rich colour and the icing on the cake is the open beak and blood red eye!! My only minor critique is the log in front is a bit distracting with the large prominent bulge.

    Hi Karl,
Bird looks awesome with the open bill and trailing bit of water. Beautiful IQ on the heron.
i really like the "hunched-up" pose and the nice view of the feet.
    Excellent IQ.
I would crop from the bottom of the frame to the bottom of the little knuckle of wood then clone the remainder of it out. This will reduce the impact of the log and I would clean up the 2 darkish areas in the RUC.
In hindsight a slightly higher POV would have helped reduce the impact of the log.
I like the way the submerged log to the left of the heron mimics the feet of the heron.
All in all, a really nice image,
    Gail

Karl see what the others say about the log in front of the bird but the detail and impact of the bird itself hold my eye and attention, think it can't be far short of perfect.

Gail, here is a version corrected as per your suggestion.

    Hi Karl
    What a shot indeed !
    Superb stuff.
Both shots look fine to me. If anything - and its very minor - you could darken the pale bit on the log. No big deal.
    Great work.

Hi Karl, agree with Geoff, stunning detail and love the open beak, and that eye is just so alive, well timed.

Unless you could move more to your right, I think this is as low as you dare without obscuring the feet, but getting low is just so important, besides which, getting down & dirty is fun. Based on the RP I would suggest an alternative crop, 16x10 so you loose some off the top, it looks a bit off balance at present, but cropping is often a personal thing. Not sure if the green above has been smoothed out in parts but I guess it naturally looks blotchy???

    Overall all done.

Light, color, pose, detail all superb. The bump on the log is a bit unfortunate, but the repost is a big improvement.

Nice IQ and vivid colors. Shooting angle was well chosen considering the bump on the log. Well done, Karl.

    Awesome colours Karl.
The POV helped with the log for sure.
    Great open bill and pose.
