Thanks for the comments/views on my previous Little Grebe.

I was watching a family of Little Grebes last week and noticed a place on the loch where they frequented. These birds are difficult to get close to, so I found myself a good viewing point in amongst the shrubs and undergrowth at the side of the loch. It was restricted due to over hanging branches etc, I knew the sun would rise directly behind me. On Sunday morning, early, I returned and got myself into position.

At first the Grebes never arrived, but, after an hour they did, and gave me a great photo shoot. This image was taken later, than my previous image, the sun was moving to my left and created shadows, I changed my aperture to 6.3, and I think this created more depth to the image.

    Thanks for looking.

    Will:

Great eye, head angle, shooting angle, exposure.

In a perfect world would prefer the bill to not merge with the body, and perhaps the bird just slightly higher in the frame.

    Cheers

Nice work Will. Lovely details. Good call on the aperture selection to focus attention on the bird's head. Just a little close to the bottom for my taste but overall well developed. Regards, Ian.

    Hi William.
Nice details and I love that brown eye. Good DOF control. Agree that it seems to be a little low in the frame.

Thanks for the comments, guys, I couldn't get the bird any higher in the frame because of the reflection. It would have meant chopping through the neck

Super IQ, and you were rewarded by studying the situation and going for it. . The bill is sharp against the oof back so the merge works for me. I agree the grebe is quite low in the frame though...

If you want more DOF, you can easily crank the 1D4 to ISO 1600 as well in good light like this and not have to worry about any noise.

I like the clarity and HA, the low POV.
Would have liked it higher in the frame as well. A bit bottom heavy with this presentation.

    Thanks for sharing Will!
