    Default Sleepy Lioness

We saw about 10 lions at Chobe NP lazing under a tree. Unlike Mara where I had the chance to shoot some nice lions in the open, here they refused to move out making it difficult to get nice shots. The BG was bright due to sunlight and there was another vehicle on the opposite side so that made comp even more difficult. So I went it for my favourite tight close-up to highlight the details! I waited for a yawn (knew it would come sooner than later) and was rewarded with this shot where the coarse tongue, the sharp teeth and the texture of the fur all were in full display. I toned down the BG quiet a bit but may have to reduce the brightness further.

Hi Sanjeev - Great timing on the yawn and the techs and pp all look good. An effective portrait and you exposed properly for the lion (please don't forget to include exposure comp, if known, in your exif posted). Nice detail in the fur and tongue. You might be able to bring out a little more in the blacks of the lips but not a deal breaker for me.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Sanjeev, right time, right location.

Good techs, albeit I would have looked for more SS, but think +2/3s would have been better, just find the Midtones a little dark, however I do like the balance and having a lighter BKG to separate the subject nicely. Great sharpness and clarity, cool to have the flies.

This works for me, Sanjeev! Comp wise as well as sharpness and detail... I too wish you could lighten up those midtones by a tad, otherwise I think you got the colours spot-on and I love the velvety texture there on the fur of this big girl! Those teeth are awesome! Subject pops nicely against the BG, a very pleasing image, very well done my friend!!!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
