This hoopoe was photographed two weeks ago at Kirkini lake, GR.

    Canon EOS-1D Mark II N,
Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6 EX DG APO IF HSM (used at 800 mm)
    f8 @ 1/1000, ISO 250, - 1/3

PP include several clone outs, levels, USM, NR, 10% saturation.

The soft morning light contributes for the shot a lot - 8:10 AM.

Lucky you to be able to get this bird wild and free. We have a pair at the local Aviary and they are fun!!!!
I love the inclusion of the habitat, specially because most of it is blurred. Maybe the bird is a tiny bit over-sharpened Good head angle if not perfect, and nice catch light. Well exposed, too.

I like it a lot and can only add that you could remove some of the shiny reflections from the bill !!! Excellent !!!!

Great find, light and eye contact. Adding to the other comments, the OOF grass in the foreground is a bit distracting but I don't think there is much you could have done about it.

Congratulations Nikolay. Just a beautiful image in nice lighting and wonderful detail and good eye contact. I tried to get an image of thiis species when we were in Africa but never really had a good opportunity. I sure would love to have this one in my file !!! Thanks for sharing.
