    Default Winter Bison

I thought I would post another image from cooler times and environs. Taken in Yellowstone this past winter on one of the interior roads open only to snowcoaches and snowmobiles.

    Canon 7D2
    100-400 II @ 400mm
    1/1000

    ISO 800
HH, straightened, levels, curves, sharpened in CCPS.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Wonderful contrast between the icy cold snow and the dark fur.
Love the comp and you've conveyed the harsh winter of the northern hemisphere well.
    TFS!

    Hi Rachel

I find my eye being pulled away from Bison to the RHS. I know some Wildlife Photographers for some bizarre reason think that images shut never be cropped 1:1..but thats a debate for another day...
Which ever way you crop its up to you ..but just bear in mind that the viewers focus should be on the first bison then go to the others....
I know some people will say but the photo needs space ..but not all photos do ..sometimes a tight crop works....

Hi Rachel, I much prefer Peters recop, helps to draw the viewers eye in better, however based on the OP, I feel a vertical format would have been a better option. The snow clad coat conveys the scene/environment well.

Hi Rachel a lovely line up of the bisons , just wish in a really nice world the RHS bison would have been more visible ............ we all have a dream sometime .
Nice tonal contrast and well controlled details in blacks and whites.
Peter´s crop does work better IMHO

Hi Rachel, I really like the triangular shape of the three Bison walking towards you. Good eye contact from the leading Bison, and the snow on the forehead adds a lot. Love your winter BG's, and I prefer your OP.

Rachel, this is a nice image with head-on pose with snow adding a lot here. Colours look spot on and the sharpness is very very good! I like the OP and if cropped vertical I would have liked a bit more space below.

I like the head-on view and the frosted-over look, Rachel.
Peter's crop is nice, but I didn't mind your OP either, worked for me.

    Hello Rachel,

Apologies for coming in so late - what beautiful threesome covered with snow, this is well exposed and wonderful detail, very nice POV:) In terms of composition I too prefer Peter's square crop.

Don't you just love that frozen appearance of the bison, the snowy beard, and the "stubborn" look? Very well captured

    Wishing you a lovely week-end,

    and

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
