    I took this shot on a recent trip to the Isle of Mull

    Canon 20D
    Canon 500mm f4 L IS plus 1.4TC
    ISO 200
    1/800 sec @ f5.6

    I love everything about this except the sun angle, that places the face in the shade and casts a shadow in the neck and breast.
    The circular shape in the background makes for a nice background IMO. Open bill a plus!

    Hi Jonathan Fill flash would really have made a difference. Normally I go for frontal lighting but here the side light is giving a special feel/mood. Would try working on the darker face, I think you make a big difference !!! Excellent !!!

    Great angle, pose and open bill. The light looks quite harsh and too bad the sun was not behind you. I find the bright orange spot a bit distracting.

    I like the pose and the little mound that the bird is standing on. Fill flash would have made a big positive impact on this image Jonathan. I'm with Axel on the orange spot. You should be able to even things out somewhat in PS, but either flash or relocating yourself in between the bird and the sun would have made the difference. Thanks for posting!
