    Default Sans bill

I was photographing on a popular north Sydney rock platform a couple of years ago when I was able to get to within 7 meters of two young
Bar-tailed Godwits. After taking the obligatory full body shots, I chose to undertake my specialty converter stack and try a super close-up.
The bird was so comfortable, that it kept dozing off, hence the no bill look.

    Canon EOS 1DMkIII
    500/4L IS USM and stacked 2x + 1.4x
    Manual mode, ISO 1600, f/16, 1/500th
Tripod, full Wimberley and kneepads for kneeling on sandstone

Nearly full frame and I didn't think I needed NR at all.

Thanks for looking and for your feedback on my previous images.

    Akos:

Makes me want to take a nap!

Well exposed, nice detail, soft background.

I am seeing some chroma noise in the background. Perhaps from the jpeg conversion.

Perhaps a bit snug in the frame.

    Cheers

Lovely close-up Amos. You can almost reach out and feel those feathers. Great detail. Very nice indeed, thanks for sharing

Superb detail. There is a detail which makes it look as though the bird has another small eye closed above the real one!
    How did you focus?

Thank you for viewing and your comments.

Randy, I saw also what you mention about the chroma noise thing. Not sure, perhaps if I ran NR on the BG, the conversion would've ended up smoother. Something to consider.

Lovely details and you must have impeccable technique to stack TCs. I've yet to try even a 2x with my long lens.
Light is really nice too. I do wish for some eye contact and for a slightly looser comp.

    Hi Lóri
I have no choice really. With a 2x or stacked TCs I always like to stop down a full step for better IQ.
