This image was captured while in Peru this past June on a blackwater tributary of the Amazon River. We were there primarily to photograph birds, but of course I knew we would see all kinds of interesting creatures, such as this cutie. We were photographing from a skiff. C&C welcome.
D4s, Nikon 500mm + 1.4 tc, 1/500s, F 5.6, ISO 2000, Monopod from skiff.
Looks just a tad noisy in the dark areas. I am thinking slightly underexposed or a hefty crop.
In any case, perhaps take off the upright on the left completely and trim from the right into 3:2 ratio vertical
and also perhaps darken the image a touch, or at least the mid to bright tones.
See what you think.
I do like it, the green running plant on the branch is beautiful, as is the monkey.
Hi Geoffrey -- lovely creature and pose ! agree with the abv suggestion on crop , will certainly bring right into the viewers eye . The noise is quite evident here certainly D4's performance in that department is way ahead , you can easily rectify that i guess . TFS !
Hi Geoffrey, agree with the above comments, to me the darks/shadows appear to have be lifted (lightened) hence the 'noise/grain' issue and also detail & clarity is a little lost sadly. With that kit & set-up I would have cranked the ISO up more to provide more SS, minimum around 1/1600 perhaps more if the ISO would allow. If this is cropped I might suggest making the LH trunk vertical, you would still have the strong diagonal, but the angle might be too severe?
Hi Geoffrey - Always interesting to see another species. I agree with the above comments about comp and pp. It's always tough to shoot from a skiff with other people's movement as well as the current affecting you. I too would try to go with a higher ss under such conditions.
