    Default Ailanthus Webworm Moth

I thought this was a beetle at first and then I looked it up and the description noted that they are often mistaken for a beetle because they curl their wings around themselves. Pretty little guy! Hand held, AF, late afternoon sun. I flipped this upside down because I didn't like him crawling down the flower, touched up the BG a bit in PC CC.

    Warren:

Neat bit of natural history. The oranges and purple work well together. Effective dof.

A side effect of him crawling down the stem was a shadow on the head. Might try to lift that gently.

    Cheers

Thanks Randy! Nice catch on that shadow, I totally missed that! I'll do a RP in the morning.

The RP really improves the image Warren. Very interesting moth, I don't think we have them this side of the pond. I might be inclined to lighten the whole image just a tad and perhaps a touch of saturation. A really nice image and well done for finding it.

The repost is better, a really interesting shot I have never seen anything like it before.

Very nice!! Interesting critter with great complementary colored BG. I would never have guessed it was flipped and can't see any hint of it. The shadow on the head could be coming from one of the flowers.

Thanks Jonathan and Diane! I had never seen this before either and now that I have seen this one I see them everywhere! Funny how this hobby makes you so much more aware of things you have never noticed before!
