Default Glossy Ibis over Salt Marsh

Captured in Brigantine back in May. I kept him small in the frame because I liked the looks of the salt marsh in the background.

    Bill:

I agree about the comp, and because the bird is strong enough, it works well. Nice downstroke pose, angle in frame.

To my eye, the image reads a bit bright, and I might consider toning down the luminosity just a bit. A low opacity multiply layer might work well.

    Cheers

I like the looser crop. The background is pleasing but still a little busy with all the colour changes. The ibis's head/bill seems fairly sharp but the wings/body don't appear sharp to me, there doesn't seem to be that much feather detail showing, sort of looks smoothed over. However, having never photographed this species, it may be just the way this bird looks from that distance.

Hi Bill, good angled flying pose, and love the iridescence on the wings. Im fine with the colours in the BG, and before reading Randy's comment, I too would run a multiply blending layer.

Thanks for your observations. Here's a version with a multiply layer @ 20%. Good suggestion.

Second one better but I think the wing shadow has been lifted a tad too much ...dark shadows exist in nature and so a dark wing is not always bad. You were working with overhead light so the light was not flattering and difficult. The shot is excellent and my personal preference is for flight shots to remain a little loose in the frame.

Your repost is definitely better, as it's darker.
Love the loose crop in this image.
As the photographer, I reckon you made the best presentation in this case.
    Well done and TFS.
