Default Great Egret Skimming the Water.

Boy oh boy was I ever in the right spot at the right time! No less then 9 Great Egrets came over and landed, one after the other, close to where I was already positioned! These guys are skittish here so it was quite a thrill for me to have this happen anywhere else but Estero Lagoon. After simply hanging out for about 15 minutes they all took off and moved on further down to where another 6 were already fishing. Here is one of my favorites, a toe-skimming landing action image (I got a few of those from different individuals). Crop is intentionally un-conventional to emphasise the long streak in the water.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/7.1, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp (about 70% FF), some Gaussian blur on and around the horizon line to minimize heat shimmer (which is still a bit apparent, but looked un-natural if pushed further).

See why you picked the comp you did Dan. Good thinking. Great timing too.

Lovely colours and that trailing foot skimming, is pretty cool.

Great timing to get the shot before total touchdown, and the wing position is perfect, not impacting on the head.

What a graceful landing. Comp is good for me, as is the way the bird stands out against the dark blue. Well captured.

Excellent composition here Daniel. All looks good on the techs. Not always an easy bird to nail...running here and running there then adopting the quirky stances and head rotation and neck stretching poses. Nice work.

Love the comp Daniel. The water trail makes it even a stronger shot than if it was without it. Perfect landing pose.

    Daniel:

When I saw the thumbnail, I figured you were going back through old files from Florida!

Agree with the crop, nice leading line from the splash. Nice whites, and an interesting effect on the underwings from the shadows and reflections from the water.

    Nice angle in the frame.

    Cheers

Striking image with beautiful colours, Daniel!

Crop is perfect, lovely pose from the subject landing on those still waters, a well balanced image with great IQ, well processed and presented.

I enjoyed viewing, thank you so much for sharing
