This is one from the island of Iona on our recent trip to the Outer Hebrides.

'The song thrush has three subspecies, with the nominate subspecies, T. p. philomelos, covering the majority of the species' range. T. p. hebridensis, described by British ornathologist, William Eagle Clark in 1913, is a mainly sendentary(non-migratory) form found in the Outer Hebrides and Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is the darkest subspecies, with a dark brown back, greyish rump, pale buff background colour to the underparts and grey-tinged flanks'

I never knew this, till I checked it out back home

    Thanks for looking

Nice work, Will. I agree with Adrian, and like him I would like to see the whole bird. Thank you for sharing.

Such a fine portrait! I'm a sucker for feather detail and this image takes it to another level! The eye is compelling...so nicely focused and and pleasing HA. TFS!

Maybe (if you wish) darken the BG just a touch if possible and also the pupil.
Love seeing the reflection in its eye.
    A tremendous portrait mate.
    Well done and TFS!

Love this head shot. Very well done. I would crop some off the top and right.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated as usual. Adrian and Joe, here is the bird as requested. I couldn't get the whole bird in the frame, but it shows the differences between the thrush species

I like the comp here, and nice head turn. How much of a crop is it? The details look OK as is but just on the edge of degradation due to crop IMO...thus my question.

Hi Daniel, I agree that I was very close to degradation, prob just on border.

Here is the original, as you can see, and as you thought, there is a fair sized crop Thanks for looking

Hi Will, excellent close up, and love the dirty beak. I like your comp, enough space all round, and agree with toning down the BG.

Looks like you are getting to grips with your 1D Mark IV. Im sure you havent regretted the change.

Hi Stu, Thanks for that. Yes definately glad, I made the change. I feel so much more comfortable and confident, than when I used the 7D Mk2. Still love my 5D Mk3 though
