Default Lord Squirrel - The Kingpin of Mata Mata

A master of skills and agility, the little Kingpin of Mata Mata has never been caught in the act - his family does the stealing and begging, all he has to do is pitch up afterwards and reap the rewards:)

Here's an image of Lord Squirrel, here he is arriving to collect his share from a couple of family members, they waited so patiently for Andre to drop a few crumbs while making breakfast.

This is for all Kalahari lovers out there...Taken in 2012 in very harsh lighting conditions, kindly note those Squirrels have a very scruffy appearance, so not a result of my sharpening:) And yes it was flipped, Andreas

PS. More on those lovely squirrels in the Story Sequences forum, kindly spare a moment to view:)

Awesome image Gabriela. Almost a macro shot! Great detail, and those whiskers radiating from his face look cool! Superb POV and colours.

    Dear Sanjeev,

These little guys climb inside your lens if you let them:)

I loved that reflection in the eye, sky and trees on top, and sand underneath...

Please have a look at Story Sequences, I uploaded some fun images last night.

Thank you so much for looking and for kind comments,

Hi Gabriela lovely portrait of Lord squirrel , one of your Kalahari friends !!!!
Sweet pose and lovely details , one must love those eyes when seeing it so close with the refections. And the little story you tell as always a great adding to the actual image .

For the harsh Kalahari light the image appears a bit dark to me , so took the liberty to lighten things up , maybe you like it , if not well up to you and it is fully ok.

    Thank you Andreas,

I realised my OP was a bit too dark just after I uploaded and I do like your RP a lot more, although I would go back on the lightening just a tiny bit? Not sure, will take another look tomorrow - thank you Boetie:)

I guess my version looked more "mysterious" and "evil" to me, LOL

Nite nite, off to the feathers now, chat soon, keep playing and experimenting, I am doing the same

Hi Gabriela - I very much like the pov and dof here. The whiskers extending in all directions are great. Excellent detail too and like you I like the reflection in the eye. I am ok with both yours and Andreas' version but you were there and know which is closer to what you saw (assuming that is what you wish to portray) or as you said, perhaps somewhere in between.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Just wanted to add I too love the long whiskers radiating from the curious sniffing nose and those bright eyes! I prefer the OP as the 2nd image is a bit too light and introduces a grayish tone for me. Too cute!

The Lord himself... a portrait filled with wonder as my eyes gaze around. Sharp, beautiful colors, I agree with Andreas that it appears a tad dark on my display. Thank you for sharing, Gabriela.

    Thank you friends,

I sometimes think the "in-between" expression we use here on BPN is a polite way of accepting a critique from a fellow photographer, but in this case I must admit Andreas was right - the OP is indeed too dark for my own liking:)

Having had another look at the RP I feel it is a tad too light, so "in-between" is the way to go as far as I am concerned. Did not think it was necessary for me to show you the "in-between" version, but I am planning to revisit this and fix the problem asap.

Meanwhile, kindly have a look at this YouTube video, my videographer friend Patrick compiled this two minute film from a couple of recordings I did some time ago, it is really funny and you will enjoy it:www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFH8HkpCtnA

Lovely image. I would prefer the exposure some where between the 2 posts.
