The side light brought out more details in the white I guess.
    Thanks for looking.

    Karl:

Absolutely, side light casts micro shadows which help define all the edges and details.

I also like the shell and the birds attention on it, makes for a nice composition.

The strong waves in the background add another layer of depth. The slight vee in the way where the bill is helps highlight the bill .

    Cheers

Good natural history image with the waves and the shell. Great light on the bird with lots of detail in the whites. Great looking beak and the overall feel of concentration from the egret on the shell. Some may prefer a cleaner background without the wave and that would be nice also (shot from lower angle) but I find the wave to be not too distracting and works well.

This is a superb image with nice detail and high interest. The bird's concentration and feather detail make this as well as the exposure. There are some funky streaks and patches in the waves. I'm sure they are an easy fix. Nice work Karl.

Hi Karl, love your shooting angle here, and yes, you would have won of the past theme's on whites hands down - good definition in the plumage. I do like the stare of the Egret on the shell. Overall, well seen Karl.

Karl, this is a very nice image IMO.
The side lighting is very nice, the comp too and the depth as Randy had said.
    Overall, very impressive.
