    Default Shelduck

    Attached Images Attached Images

Yesterday morning early I went to Circle B Bar Reserve, nothing happening there, so I left early. On the way home I stopped by one of the lakes in the center of Lakeland, Florida. I captured this image of a Shelduck there, last year there was one, this year there are three. This bird is not suppose to be in Florida, it's normal range is Europe and Asia. Another exotic to add to the birds in Florida. The image was captured at Lake Mirror, Lakeland, Florida. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

This is a really nice image Joe.
Great light, good IQ, nice POV and a lovely subject.
Exposure is spot on for the whites and blacks.
I think this needs a touch of CW rotation.
Nice bow wake and head turn.
    Well done,
    Gail

Agree with Gail about the CW rotation. While the POV is good, a lower perspective would be even better.
    Good work Joe.

    Joe:

Good critiques from Gail and Akos. I have been to some of the lakes in Lakeland, and getting a really low pov can be a challenge at some, even sitting down!

I wonder if this fellow is an escapee from somewhere local, as opposed to being a lost wild duck?

    Cheers

Gail, Akos, and Randy, thank you for viewing and commenting.

Randy, this is the lake with the concrete promenade and wall around it. Also those of us who live here go near the edge of the water and into the water with extreme caution... alligators. I value my limbs, just this week a woman swimming in a river had her arm removed by a alligator.

Excellent IQ. It looks as though the bird is swimming away from you but a bit of CW rotation will help.
I fear for both you and the bird if there are alligators lurking about.

Sweet, simple (in a good way). Yes to rotation and yes to staying away from gators.

Hi Joe, you certainly nailed the exposure on this fellow, I can see the different colours on the head. Good HA, and I would take a bit off the bottom. Another vote for some CW rotation.

Magnificent profile image. Superb exposures in blacks and whites, lovely colours, details and nice composition.
Nice to here that you are having rare birds in your area.

    Regards,
    Satish.
