Stonefish
Totally unable to compete with some of the awesome big animal portraits for this months theme (I'll get round to commenting later today!), but my dad always said "It's the taking part that counts" so here's a headshot of a Stonefish taken from a Northern Red Sea dive site - forgotten which one in all honesty!
Canon 7d with 60mm macro
ISO 160
1/160th
f11
twin strobes

Wow Mike, what kaleidoscope of colours!
I love this! Would never dare complain about colour casts LOL, just about every colour I can think of is present here...Just awesome, makes me think how wonderful Mother Nature is, and the diversity on this planet.
Nice DOF and well exposed, in terms of composition err...it does fill the frame and I am afraid it might jump off the screen! Just kidding, would like to see some more images of this amazing creature if you have, thank you so much for sharing, a pleasure to view
Have a super evening,

Really a wonderful closeup up with great details! I envy you and your diving! What a wonderful experience! Even better when you can bring back images like this! The coloring on the ones I've seen have been much more saturated, but you were there.

Thanks Sanjeev, I'd love to take fellow photographers underwater - it's so different to shooting topside and so much fun. Maybe one day I'll win the lottery and arrange a meet up!
thanks for stopping by

Thanks Karen - you are right about the saturation, I think the difference though is they vary a lot. I think you've mentioned diving in PNG before (must be a great place to go to) and in many tropical areas I've noted they seem to have bright oranges and reds.
unfortunately in the Red Sea, I've not seen those colours, in fact I've got shots of them displaying very plain colours, just sandy shades to blend in, so I have no doubt you are correct with your memories, but this fish was far less colourful

Andreas,
I always appreciate your PP efforts. On this one I think you have pushed things too far though with the contrast. AS I mentioned to Karen, this was not the most colourful specimen ever compared to other locations around the world.
Out of interest, if I can dig out the original RAW file (it's on an old computer) would you mind if I fired it over to you to see what you could come up with?
regards
Mike

Now that's a face I wouldn't want to wake up to in the middle of the night!
I like the colours and textures, Mike - and think Andreas' repost has taken it up a notch as the original lacked a bit of punch for me...
