Hi Karl, lovely angled pose, and I like how the Heron has 'turned in' over the perch - balances the comp. Ive always enjoyed the various colours on these guys, and thats a killer BG. I felt the BG and perch were a bit bright, so here is my version with a multiply blending layer, and also added some selective sharpening on the Heron. Hope you dont mind.

    Hi Karl,
This is lovely. It is so hard to get these birds against a beautiful BG so kudos for getting this.
    I really like Stu's repost.
Great pose and perch as well.

    Karl:

A very interesting combination of bird and strong graphic feeling to the lines in the perch. My impression before looking at Stu's comment was that the perch was a bit bright and tended to somewhat overpower the bird. Toning it down a bit helped.

I might also try a version without the stick at the very bottom, to simplify the perch area a bit.

    Cheers

Hi Karl, awesome BG, lovely composition and cool bird. I prefer Stu's re-post as I thought the heron could do with a bit of sharpening in places and I think Stu's one pops a bit more. Thanks for sharing.

I love the background in this shot.
Wish the perches weren't broken, but I would have also taken the shot if I were presented with this scene.
Lovely pose and framing done Karl!

like the pose and the nice perch, you got a very nice file to work with. I like what Stu did to bring out more contrast, I'd also consider sharpening a bit more

Nice work here Karl. I echo the critique above. The perch I find unusual and interesting:)

The heron may be standing on one leg, but I love the balance in the frame :) thanks to interesting perch. What is it?
Your BG is spectacular. In terms of contrast, I'd go between the OP and Stu's RP. Nicely done Karl
