MY bill is pretty long too! - common loon with bill in profile
This fellow was captured two weeks ago in northern Michigan. Probably a male, but not easy to tell.
D4 600VR with TC-14, EFL 850. f/7.1 1/1250 ISO 800 . From my boat.
Post: Minor crop for comp, added a sliver of canvas on left. Debated about the catchlight, but stayed with it as taken. Cleaned up specular reflections on bill. Toned down whites a bit. Selective sharpening.
Hi Randy, your usual low shooting angle from your boat sets this off nicely. Once again exposure and sharpness spot on. Interesting colour to the plumage on the head - Im used to seeing more of a green sheen, rather than more brown here. There is a slight hint of green on the chin and back of the head. Do their colours 'change' due to the angle of light?
This is lovely Randy.
A nice intimate POV but what sets this one apart for me is the lovely colors in the water.
IQ excellent as always. Lovely detail to the feathers and whites.

What a lovely shot.....the catch light is fine....I would not have even dreamed of changing it:) I can only dream of doing this species as well as you have done them....'hat's off to ya'.'
