Photographed on a pond near Twizel, South Island, New Zealand, Easter 2015. Not very common so always an exciting find.

You have captured a wonderful species here.
Love the poses and interaction of the 2 grebes and I am pleased you got both within the DOF of 5.6.
POV is excellent. IQ excellent. raised crests really adds to the image.
I like the moodiness of the image but wish you had a bit better light to help light up the eyes a bit or give you a catch light.
I like the comp you chose but could also see a version with a bit off the bottom.
All in all, a lovely image! Would love this in my files,
    Gail

Beautiful image, a nice calm look to the image. I imagine a peaceful morning on a lake. Good background/water, good interaction of the grebes and decent head angles from both birds. Only thing to improve would be to get lower....wetsuit may be needed....

    Tony:

Lovely birds, charming, intimate light, well exposed, nice balance of DOF.

The lighter greens around the heads helps to make them pop from the darker background.

Yes, a bit more light on the face/eye would add a bit of pop there. Don't know if flash is allowed there, but just a hint of fill on the faces would have been an interesting option.

Thanks so much for sharing, great to see you posting!

    Cheers

Hi Tony, this low perspective works well for me, and I do like the poses from both of the Grebes. The light looks nice and soft, well exposed on both, and I like how colours on the RHS of the BG compliment the right hand side Grebe. A central placement was the only way to go.

Looking forward to your images from Antarctica.

Hi Tony a very nice interaction shot , very pleasing to the eye on all counts , i might just drop the blues selectively in the darker tones .

Great image Tony! I like the poses, soft light, BG, exposure and low angle. That area of your country is beautiful.
