Nice one Bill. One of my bogie birds. Seen them in Spain but never managed one here..Was just about to post a Common Redstart I,ll hang on a bit.
    Good stuff
Forgot to mention. Small quirk of mine but it would be nice to have a little something in the BG- however faint. Just my personal choice- no big deal I know we can't always do it.l.

I bet you had a blast with this species! ....lucky you Bill! Nice work and I stand with John in regard to backgrounds generally but in the circumstances there is a hint of colour/texture change but a bit more would have been ideal IMHO. It's a shame about the bright bark areas. It would perhaps be better if the same could be toned down a tad.

    Thanks guys .. really appreciated

funny you should comment on the bg and white stripe on the bark ...... I cooled the bg down a little when I reduced the bg noise and I emphasised the white stripe a little with the dodge tool

I tend to process on the "cool" and less saturated side and I have started to use crops with the subject are central than I did before ... just for a "change" .... but I am still a novice with pp

by the way we live in SW France ....... we get The Black and The Common every year ........ I did see an adult male in the UK a couple of months ago but never got near enough for a good shot

Here's another couple - two different birds

Very nice look-back pose, and the flash of tail is really good. I'm OK with the BG is there is a subtle colour pattern there. I would have used the burn tool on the white area of the perch rather than the dodge tool. I'd likely also come in a bit more from the bottom and right. Good techs, nice details. You say born in your barn...did you get to follow the nesting steps?
