This was obviously shot in bright sun @ 1345. I made the shot because I thought the bright sun would illuminate his black head & provide good detail.

Hi Andrew - Nice to see you posting a wildlife image. We've missed you. I do think the bright light allowed you to sow a lot of detail. If it were mine I would still run a luminosity mask at about 40%. You'll still have the detail where you have it but will tame the highlights for a more pleasing (IMO) portrait. The grass/leaf in the mouth adds to the image.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi ANdrew -- Very nice image . Yes certainly the bright light is providing the detail but still it appears quite bright to the eye. I also feel there should have been more space on the LHS of the image . TFS !

Hi Andrew a very cool image of this big boy , i love the Bisons wether it is the american or the european . Always very impressive folks .
Nice pose pose of the subject and the framing does work for me here .
You did quite well with the exp , not that easy in that somewhat harsh looking light .
Agree with Rachel and Haseeb regarding burning the HL would help ......

    Hello Andrew!

    We missed you, welcome back:)

I too love Bisons, just not enough images of them here in Wildlife...

Just adding my thoughts to this lovely portrait, I think you exposed well under the conditions and some nice detail coming through. I feel you could extract more detail from the horns of the subject and the HL need a bit of attention, other than that I am happy with the framing and presentation in general, well captured and thank you so much for sharing, hope you have more Bison images in your folders?

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice portrait of this iconic American species.
I agree with Rachel that you could make a lot more of this by taming the highlights some more...
I'd even play with a high-key monochrome version too?
